Young Brits risk debt problems to go on holidayThursday 24th July 2008

Millions of cash-strapped young Britons are set to take a holiday this year, despite admitting they fear this will push them further into debt.

In a survey of 1,047 adults conducted by Creditexpert.co.uk some 33 per cent of 18-24 year-olds polled said they are succumbing to peer pressure to go on a holiday which is likely to push them further into debt.

Jim Hodgkins, managing director of the site, said: "The credit crunch is really biting now and it will be painful for people to make the choice between not going on holiday or taking on more debt to do so."

The site's research also discovered that 16 per cent of Britons consider holidays so important that they only think about the money they have spent when they return home.

Signs that people are failing to cut back in the face of the credit crunch come amid mounting speculation that the crisis will fuel a huge rise in problem debt this year.

This in turn is set to prompt a surge in demand for professional debt advice and debt management solutions.
