Women urged to improve financial knowledge

Sheconomics, a new book from psychologist Karen Pine and financial expert Simonne Gnessen, attempts to help female consumers keep their spending under control and manage their money more effectively.
According to the authors, the guidance contained in the book is tailored specifically for women, who frequently approach money matters with a different attitude to that of than men and are often neglected in the male-dominated world of financial advice.
"It soon became obvious to me that most women's financial problems were either the result of or complicated by their underlying attitude to money, alongside a variety of personal issues or self-limiting beliefs," Ms Gnessen told the Times.
"Instant credit has completely changed our relationship with money," she added.
One piece of advice selected by the newspaper from the book is "Look debt in the face. Face up to what you owe and decide how to pay it back".
Sharon Bratley, chartered financial planner at fairinvestment.co.uk, recently advised debtors to face their money problems sooner rather than later.
