TV presenter gives Christmas debt warning
Monday 1st December 2008
The budgeting guru, who can regularly be seen dispensing money advice on This Morning, GMTV and other programmes, warned that losing financial control during the festive season can have severe consequences.
Commenting on the tendency for extravagance at Christmas, Ms Birtles said: "All this spending has created misery."
As well as leading to debt and other financial difficulties, spending too much can obscure the true meaning of Christmas, the adviser stated.
"Not just after Christmas with the debt, but at Christmas there is an empty feeling of disappointment and frustration. This is not what Christmas is about," she explained.
In addition to her television work, Ms Birtles writes a column for the Daily Express and has published 36 books on personal finance, with her latest effort entitled The Money Book: Control Your Money, Control Your Life.
