Students in need of debt help solutions

Many students rely on borrowing to be able to access higher education but the expensive education leaves some in need of debt management solutions after accumulating loans.
The student leaders have accused the Scottish government of being insensitive to their hardships in an open letter to education secretary Fiona Hyslop, which has been published in the Herald.
Signed by Gurjit Singh, the president of the National Union of Students in Scotland, the letter wants the government to focus on tackling student debt, which is a deterrent to some.
Opposition politicians in Scotland have also backed the letter, which wants the government to "take a new direction" to help students.
"We call on the Scottish government to address student hardship, to address students' reliance on commercial credit, and to increase funding for hardship and childcare funds," reads the letter.
Reactions to the dispatch have been swift.
Howard McKenzie, the principal and chief executive of Jewel & Esk College in Dalkeith wrote to the Telegraph saying: "As principal of a college of some 8,000 students with an average age of 32, I see first-hand, year on year the problems students face with debt."
Mr McKenzie went on to state that debt was preventing thousands of aspiring students from going to university and said the situation will only get worse unless the issue is addressed.
According to Credit Action, average graduate debt is now around £15,000 and this sum can be managed through simple measures such as keeping a budget, which the majority of young people do not do.
