Axed Nottingham City Council workers may need debt advice

The council is encouraging 200 of its ex-employees to apply for different roles within the organisation, though the number of vacant posts remains unknown, according to thisisnottingham.co.uk.
Jon Collins, council leader, told the local news provider: "We introduced a robust vacancy management process to not only reduce immediate costs in these difficult times, but to provide redeployment options for employees at risk of redundancy."
The figures have been released following a breakdown in talks between the council and union leaders, though Mr Collins maintains discussions are still ongoing.
He added: "We are continuing our dialogue with employees and trade unions to ensure the number of compulsory redundancies is minimised and ensure that services continue to be provided."
The cuts included two teams that provided specialist services to ethnic minorities.
While the council maintains that the cuts are part of a cost-cutting operation as a result of the "difficult global economic circumstances", union leaders remain sceptical about the effect the cuts will have on the council's books.
A Unison spokesman said: "The savings the council is saying it will make from making staff redundant seem small once they have received redundancy settlements."
More than 180 staff have accepted voluntary redundancy. This will mean that fewer people wishing to remain in work will be forced out.
The redundancies highlight the continuing presence of the recession despite moderate signals of improvement, such as those seen in the housing market over the past few weeks.
Bank of England figures released earlier this month showed mortgage figures rose by 3,163 to 43,201 from March to April this year, the fourth increase in five months.
