Need for increased working hours could be reduced with debt management
Wednesday 29th July 2009
That is according to research from uSwitch.com, which suggests the total number of people working extra hours has risen by ten per cent on last August's figures to 29 per cent.
People compelled to work extra hours could consider seeking professional debt management advice to potentially ease the financial necessity of working overtime.
An additional reason for the increase in working hours is people's desire to impress in the office and hold onto their job. With unemployment reaching 2.38 million, job security is of paramount importance.
Louise Bond, personal finance manager at uSwitch.com, said that workers' reactions to the economic and employment crisis was of little surprise.
She said: "Salary increases are fast becoming a distant memory so workers have to find other ways to make up for the lost cash.
"In order to do this, people's working habits have had to change to increase income levels which includes returning to work, picking up overtime and moving from part to full time work."
Many Britons are also moving from part-time to full-time work in order to increase income levels, while those who are unable to secure an increase in hours are simply searching for better paid work.
Those who are struggling financially and unable to source better paid work could find speaking to a debt management specialist helpful.
