More consumers fear losing jobs
Friday 29th August 2008
The Trades Union Congress (TUC) surveyed 3,000 workers across the UK to assess how they viewed their employment prospects in the face of the slowing economy.
Worryingly, 13 per cent of respondents - equating to around 3.3 million people - said they thought their jobs are at risk over the next 12 months.
The findings follow the release of official data showing that the number of Britons out of work rose by 60,000 during the second quarter of this year.
TUC general secretary Brendan Barber said: "These poll findings show just how many people are getting worried about losing their job in the current economic slowdown.
Consumers who have lost their job and are concerned that they will not be able to make debt repayments are urged to consult a debt management company for specialist debt advice.
