Duchess of York may require debt managementFriday 30th October 2009

Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, has revealed that she has debts of £600,000 after her lifestyle company Hartmoor collapsed.

In an interview with Hello! magazine, she said that she had ploughed her life savings into the start-up firm which sells health foods and vitamins in the USA.

Although an investor and employee of the firm, she says she did not sit on its management team. The company suffered after failing to win endorsement deals.

The Duchess of York was taken to court last month over £21,539 of unpaid bills and is said to have considered the option of declaring herself bankrupt.

However, she hopes to pay off some of her debts with proceeds from a recent deal she has signed to write a series of books for children.

It is possible that the Duchess is now looking into debt solutions. Many people struggling with financial difficulties decide to take on debt consolidations loans or debt management plans to help their situation.

The Duchess told the magazine: "I could write a really interesting book about finance for women and the first bit of advice I would give is never sign away your intellectual property."

"I know I am the luckiest woman in the world. I've just been facing difficulties like so many other people. The good news is I don't want to be perfect. I'm just me and I'll never change."

Earlier this month, former premier league footballer John Barnes was issued with a bankruptcy order over an unpaid tax bill, although this was subsequently rescinded.
