Debtors urged to remember true meaning of Christmas
Debtors urged to remember true meaning of Christmas
Monday 22nd December 2008
The Huddersfield Examiner's Andy Baldwin urges people not to overspend during the festive period simply because they feel under pressure to appear generous and enjoy themselves.
He explains that, with many people already struggling financially in the current economic climate, an expensive Christmas could have severe consequences in the new year.
Instead of splashing the cash this week, Mr Baldwin advises people to focus on a more traditional understanding of Christmas.
He comments: "The true message of Christmas is that love is not to be measured in pound signs.
"It really is the thought that counts. The alternative is counting the cost of self-inflicted misery."
According to a recent survey from Abbey Credit Cards, 31 per cent of Britons are planning to spend less money on Christmas presents for loved ones this year.
