Debt worries mounting for borrowers
Wednesday 4th June 2008
The proportion of consumers who are concerned over their ability to meet repayments stood at 38 per cent at the end of March, according to a poll conducted by price comparison site MoneyExpert.com.
The figure marks a significant rise from December last year when 33 per cent of those surveyed expressed concerns over their debt levels.
Commenting on the results, Sean Gardner, director of MoneyExpert.com, dubbed them "a collective cry for help" and urged those facing problems with loan and credit card debt to take action as soon as possible "to avoid finding themselves in even more difficulty".
He said: "Many people are not in severe trouble but are becoming increasingly worried nonetheless.
"There are many ways to get your finances under control, from debt consolidation to just juggling your borrowing onto cheaper products."
