Debt management could allow people to save
Debt management could allow people to save
Wednesday 16th September 2009
That is according to figures from Santander, which reveal that the overall number of people saving has fallen by six per cent since the start of the year.
Those that are finding it difficult to cope with debt and subsequently save any money could find a consultation with a debt management specialist of use.
Santander's research also found that 40 per cent of Britons are saving nothing at all, with 26 per cent of those able to put some money aside revealing that it is less than they managed last year.
Reza Attar-Zadeh, director of savings & investments, said: "It's not too late for those Britons who haven't yet kick started their savings habit to make a start.
"Putting aside even a small amount each month will quickly add up to help provide them with a safety net in today's difficult economic climate."
Consumers that have managed to put money aside are on average saving more, with an overall increase of 26 per cent. The rise equates to an average saving of £206 per month.
Mr Attar-Zadeh went on to say that the increase in savers' monthly set-asides was "encouraging" in light of the recession.
People that are struggling to save as a result of financial difficulties could consider speaking to a debt advice specialist.
