Debt fears prompt students to scrap study plans
Debt fears prompt students to scrap study plans
Friday 18th July 2008
In a poll conducted by the Association of Investment Companies (AIC) it was discovered that 15 per cent of students have decided to put their postgraduate studies on hold until they are better able to afford them.
Meanwhile, student debt accrued in college is forcing ten per cent to abandon their plan to take the courses altogether.
The study's findings come after research conducted by the National Union of Students found that the average student now leaves college with a debt of £20,000.
Annabel Brodie-Smith, communications director at the AIC, said: "Whilst there are many benefits that come with a university education, on graduation many young people find themselves struggling to repay their debt."
Students who are struggling financially are urged to seek professional debt advice for guidance on debt management solutions such as debt management plans (DMPs).
