Could debt management have prevented eviction?

Colin and Marlis Hempson and their three children will now have to leave their home, despite having paid their rent on time since they moved into the property in March, according to the BBC.
They are set to leave the property today after being given a short reprieve by the county court.
The landlord, who bought the home to let, is currently thought not to be in the UK and the family only found out recently that his mortgage payments are in arreas and had only obtained a letting certificate lasting six months.
It is possible that the repossession by the mortgage company could have been avoided by the home's landlord if he had sought debt management solutions.
The landlord and others in his financially precarious situation could have benefitted from measures such as debt consolidation loans and debt management plans.
The Hempson family have offered to pay their rent directly to the mortgage company, but this has been rejected.
Mrs Hempson said she thought it was unfair for her family to be evicted through no fault of their own. She told BBC News: "There should be more safeguards and also help for people who find themselves in this position, one minute we had a home, the next minute it's gone."
"It's very disappointing that something like this can happen in the 21st century."
Last week, statistics from the Land Registry revealed that house prices increased by 0.9 per cent nationally in September.
