Debt Management Privacy

Will details of your plan remain confidential?

Although debt problems are extremely common, many of us still feel a sense of shame or embarrassment at the thoughts of our loved ones finding out about our financial difficulties.

You may believe money is quite a private issue and while family and friends are the ones you can rely on in difficult times; you might feel you don’t want to worry them by letting them know you’re in debt.

Fair, ethical and reliable advice

While we would usually recommend being honest with your loved ones, we also understand that it’s up to you to decide to what extent you wish to confide in them about your finances. If you’ve made the decision not to talk to your family about your debt management plan, you may feel you need reassurance that you’ve made a good choice about sorting out your debt.

As a debt management company you’re entrusting us with your finances, so you’ll find it comforting to know we operate a ‘best advice’ protocol. Put simply, that means the advice we give is centred on what’s best for you, not what’s best for us. We also comply with the 1974 Consumer Credit Act and that means when we give you advice we have a duty to make sure it’s ethical.

Your partner - to tell or not to tell

Our expertise is in debt management, so we won’t pretend to be experts in marital relationships! It is your decision whether to tell your husband/wife/partner and unless you instruct us otherwise, we will keep your debt management plan private.  Normally, the only instances where you would have to tell your partner and get their consent would be if your debts are in joint names or if you’re relying on their income to support your debt management plan.

Confidentiality and confidence

Your debt management plan is designed to help remove your debt anxieties, not add to them – so we’ll make sure privacy isn’t something you need to worry about.  You can take confidence in the fact that we’re covered by the Data Protection Act to ensure your personal data is kept confidential.

Even when you make that initial enquiry by telephoning us, your enquiry will be treated in confidence and there’ll be no obligation to take things further. If you do decide to work with us in devising a debt management plan, we’ll be able to set everything up over the phone and by letter, so you won’t usually have to make any arrangements to meet with us.

Protecting your privacy is important to us and we’ll only collect and retain information from you which helps us find the most appropriate solution to helping solve your debt problems.
